Dating back to 1870, the Old Idaho Penitentiary is open to the public as a museum highlighting stories of the inmates who lived here, as well as sparking important conversations around social justice and prisoner’s rights. In operation for just over 100 years, the Old Idaho Penitentiary witnessed escape attempts, prison riots, imprisoned kids, and more. Each exhibit throughout the grounds attempts to share their stories in a humane way, while raising awareness about the conditions they lived in.
