Alternatively, visit the historic town of San Miguel de Allende. During Holy Week, there are fireworks, special Easter processions, and masses, plus paper maché figures for kids to spot! 

For something a little more low-key and less festive, visit the white sand beaches of Cancun. Check out Playa Tortugas, Playa Delfines, and Playa Chacmool to take a dip in the waves, work on your tan, or just relax and enjoy the incredible views! Families can also visit ancient archaeological sites like Chichen Itza or Teotihuacan, go on a safari through the stunning Yucatan Peninsula, and see the Rio Secreto Cave in Playa del Carmen.

Cusco, Peru

Since Easter is a special time and a chance for families to take advantage of the break from school to visit new places, why not consider Cusco, Peru? This beautiful capital city is located in the Andes Mountains, full of history and culture. Plus, when you visit during Easter, there’s plenty to do, from exploring ancient ruins to attending special Easter events. It also helps that the weather is often a cool 70 degrees, a big contrast to the sweltering summer! 

Semana Santa is one of Cusco’s biggest celebrations of the year, and the city abounds with processions and celebrations. On Holy Monday, families can check out the El Señor de los Temblores Procession (The Lord of Earthquakes) from Plaza de Armas. Then, on Good Friday, walk the Way of the Cross procession, which begins in Plaza San Francisco. Easter Sunday is one of the biggest events in Cusco. Enjoy religious masses and secular activities throughout the city, including fireworks, dancers, and street performers! The Cusco Cathedral, located in the Plaza de Armas, is also worth a visit on Easter. Cusco has several fascinating museums that put on Easter-themed exhibits, including the Museum of Popular Art. 

For something more active, the nearby Sacred Valley is a great place to go hiking or biking. And there are also plenty of ruins and Inca sites to explore, like Sacsayhuaman or Q’enqo. Easter is also a great time to visit Machu Picchu, as there will be fewer tourists than usual. Finally, take the PeruRail to pass through the most scenic landscapes in the country before arriving at these world-famous ruins! If you’re looking for a unique and memorable Easter break with your family, consider spending it in Jerusalem, Israel! This historic city is full of kid-friendly activities and attractions, making it the perfect place to celebrate Easter with a rich cultural tradition dating back centuries. Since this sacred city is such a popular pilgrimage destination, there are many special Holy Week events and activities for all ages. You can also explore the rest of the Old City while you’re there, including the Western Wall, Dome of the Rock, and more. And no trip to Jerusalem would be complete without a visit to the Church of the Nativity, located in Bethlehem. Here, you can see where Jesus was born, and even step inside the cave that served as his birthplace. It’s a truly meaningful and unforgettable experience! 

For an active way to spend Easter break here, consider hiking up to the Mount of Olives for a birds-eye view of Jerusalem. Other things to do during Easter break include exploring the lively Mahane Yehuda Market, visiting ancient sites like the Tower of David, Dome of the Rock, or Herod’s Temple, or simply enjoying wandering around this beautiful city.
