From the local Queens County Farm to White Post Farms in Long Island and further options like Harvest Moon, families will find a variety of activities to entertain family members of all ages. Spend the afternoon picking pumpkins or apples, enjoying a hayride, or exploring a corn maze! Kids will love sampling sweet homemade treats from the farm’s kitchens, while parents sip on tasty hot cider. Plasko’s Farm & Creamery, CT

Visit Plasko’s Farm & Creamery to guarantee lots of family fun! Located about an hour and a half outside of the city by car, this southern Connecticut destination is a perfect way to spend a fall day. Meander through a sprawling corn maze, it’s been open for almost twenty years! Of course, the farm is also stocked with plenty of pumpkins, squash, and seasonal plants to take back home. On weekends, families will find fun for children of all ages too, from hayrides to farm animals. If little ones have a sweet tooth, you’ve definitely come to the right place. Stop by the creamery for homemade ice cream and delicious baked goods, including apple cider donuts! Take note, though: COVID-19 safety procedures are in place at Plasko’s Farm & Creamery. Guests are required to wear a face-covering while on the premises, and zero contact takeout is available at the creamery.

Harvest Moon, NY

Harvest Moon Farm and Orchard is definitely one of the best pumpkin patches near NYC to visit with kids! Located in North Salem, an hour via car, it’s also easily accessible via the Metro-North to Croton Falls. Remember to make an appointment, though! This year, apple and pumpkin picking are by reservation only. To comply with COVID-19 guidelines, the annual fall festival is also canceled, including its scheduled programming: hayrides, pony rides, and children’s activities. When you reserve your apple or pumpkin picking time, however, you’ll still receive admission to the property, including the farm store and Hardscrabble Cider. Stop by the shop for a variety of groceries and farm-grown products and take in the beautiful country scenery! For apple picking, you’ll receive one half-bushel bag holding about 25 pounds. Reservations can be made for up to two people, and guests a part of the same party must enter together.

Wright Family Farm, NY

Your children will love The Wright Family Farm! Located in Warwick, it’s less than an hour and a half away from New York City. This family-run farm also offers a variety of fall activities for parents and children alike to enjoy! Visit during the Fall Harvest Festival to journey through a winding corn maze and test your instincts. Or, explore the barnyard to say hi to some adorable fuzzy friends! Kids can also take a ride on the pedal carts, cow train, or a spin on the tube slide and hamster wheel. To comply with COVID-19 rules, the Wright Family Farm has even added a second maze this year, as well as a third pumpkin patch! There’s plenty of room for the whole family to visit the farm while maintaining proper social distancing from others. First responders, healthcare workers, grandparents, and teachers can also enjoy free admission on select days.

Masker Orchards, NY

Masker Orchards is a budget-friendly pumpkin picking spot! Located in Warwick, the farm offers free admission for all ages (including parking). Here, experience the magic of fall in the surrounding Hudson Valley! Here, the 2020 picking season includes pumpkins and plenty of family photo opportunities. Kids can even eat all of the apples they want during your visit, since you only pay for the apples you decide to take home! Those with a sweet tooth will be delighted to discover the on-site country store is still accepting online orders, with immediate pick-up when you arrive on the farm. You don’t even need to exit your car! Masker Orchards is a safe, family outing during COVID-19 because you can drive up to the apple trees directly and enjoy time outside while social distancing. White Post Farms, LI

White Post Farms is certainly one of the best pumpkin patches near NYC with kids! Located in Melville, this Long Island getaway provides picking by the pound, alongside other kid-friendly activities. Take home the perfect pumpkin or enjoy pumpkin painting in the cornfield! Of course, kids will love the Giraffe Observation Deck, where you can spot the farm’s tallest residents. Or, buy a feeding bucket and head to the petting zoo, where kids can come face-to-face with their favorite furry friends! White Post Farms also includes a primate area and aviary. Children can also enjoy a pony ride or hop on the Farmland Express! Afterward, grab a bite from the concession stand or visit the Farm Store, selling warm banana nut bread and homemade pies. Guests must wear face masks and adhere to COVID-19 social distancing guidelines while visiting White Post Farms.

Fishkill Farms, NY

Fall Harvest Season is now open at Fishkill Farms! Located about an hour and a half north of New York City, this Hopewell Junction destination attracts families from all over. Spend the day picking your own fruits and vegetables at the farm, from pumpkins to apples, peppers, flowers, and herbs! Weekday and weekend apple picking packages are available for families, including pumpkin picking packages. Fall activities at Fishkill Farms range from wagon rides to a corn maze, perfect for children of all ages! Enjoy fresh donuts and a variety of food made at the farm grill while you take in the fresh air. Adults can even reserve a Treasury Cider Tasting table or take an outdoor yoga class on Saturdays. Due to COVID-19 guidelines, guests must make a reservation to go apple or pumpkin picking, however. Masks are required and social distancing must be practiced while picking.

Queens County Farm

Queens County Farm occupies the largest tract of undisturbed farmland in New York City. Dating back to 1697, this 47-acre farm and museum feature historic buildings, livestock, an orchard, and even a herb garden! Families will love this tranquil environment to escape the hustle and bustle of the city. Wander through the pumpkin patch and pick-your-own-pumpkin to take home or venture through the 3-acre Maize Maze! Kids will love taking a hayride around the expansive property. In the meantime, parents can enjoy some apple cider. Since the farm is conveniently located in the city, it offers the perfect fall and Halloween photo opportunities for your upcoming holiday card. COVID-19 safety precautions are in place here, however, and guests must wear a face mask, maintain social distancing, and limit the size of their party. General admission is free for adults and children, with some exceptions for special events.

Wightman Farms, NJ

Wightman Farms concludes our list of best pumpkin patches near NYC to visit with kids! Located in nearby Morristown, this New Jersey farm is less than an hour outside of the city. Families can easily take their children here to enjoy exciting, autumn harvest activities! Entry to the farm is $20 for all guests over 3 years old, but this admission is all-inclusive. Take a scenic hayride around the farm to enjoy the great outdoors. Visit Mazeland and make your way through a variety of mazes, including a corn maze, hay bale maze, and rope maze! Guests can pick one pumpkin as part of their admission fee, and you will receive a tote to pick apples. Remember to pay for the apples separately before leaving the farm. Social distancing guidelines are in place to protect guests, and masks are required while visiting Wightman Farms.
