According to the Italian law, any time you sit in a vehicle fitted with seat belts, it is mandatory that you use them. Children who are under 36 kg (97 pounds) or 150 cm (4 ft, 9 in) must use appropriate child restraints.
The Metro in Rome is convenient and will take you to all of the major tourist attractions. The bus will take you to other places the metro does not cover.
