SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
FAQ
Families Love Travel is written by parents, for parents - detailing advice on hotels, restaurants, and family-friendly activities throughout a variety of popular destinations. We invite anyone willing to recount advice, suggestions, or tips to join our growing community.
Please remember we do not have the financial backing to pay contributors. Your submission will be solely to help other members of our community. Top Contributors who submit three or more articles will also be invited to include a short bio on our website, including links to personal websites and/or social media profiles!
If you’d like to contribute to our website, please review the following guidelines.
Families Love Travel submissions are often focused on destination-specific topics such as Things to Do or Places To See With Kids, like museums, shows, playgrounds, parks, etc. You can also write about where to eat with kids (reviews of kid-friendly restaurants) or where to stay with kids (family-friendly hotels, Air B&Bs, vacation rentals, etc.) for a variety of destinations
worldwide. We also accept itineraries. Please check our website for examples on areas we’ve covered before.
We also have an Interest section that includes more genre-specific articles, such as vacations to National Parks, Disney, Cruises, Animal Safaris, or various travel tips. Examples include “6 days in Acadia National Park,” “how to travel with kids that have allergies or disabilities,” how to save money during travel,” or “getting around in foreign countries,” etc. Families Love Travel has also launched a new Travel From Home section, where we compile online resources to experience culture from the comfort of your home or excite children about future travels.
We’re nevertheless open to new ideas, so send us a pitch if you have one!
Ideally, submissions should be minimum of 800 words! Please let us know if you have a specific angle in mind that may require more explanation.
Use short, simple sentences and short paragraphs. Paragraphs should be no more than 150 words.
Also use active language, present tense, and transition words to guide the reader (eg. “Kids will learn…” compared to “This is a way kids can learn about…”) and (eg. “Next, try…” or “First, let’s…” or “As a result...”).
Headings and subheadings are a good thing! They help readers scan and read your article. Be sure to also consider your audience when writing your article. It may be read by adults and older children, some who may be well-traveled and others who may not be. Each section should also include links to help families better learn about the location!
Even if your article is focused on your specific family vacation, submissions should be more informational rather than personal or anecdotal. Your article will go through editing and proofreading for length, tone, voice, spelling, grammar, punctuation, and clarity. Don’t worry if you don’t feel like the perfect writer - be excited and be you! We can help with the rest. This process will also assist with readability and search engine optimization (SEO) to ensure it pops up in Google searches.
When writing an article, please include information about how old your kids are and when you went on this particular trip! We also only accept submissions from parents without affiliations with any business they choose to review. If you are associated with any travel-related companies, please be sure to make that clear in your submission.
Contributors who submit three or more articles will be given a spot on our Top Contributor page, where we’ll include your professional bio, social media links, and headshot photo! Biographies for Top Contributors should be between 100-115 words and photos should be submitted in a horizontal format.
Please attach separate photographs through our form so we can perform the necessary adjustments. Files should be high-resolution and JPG, labeled by its destination. Families Love Travel may also crop and/or enhance your photos, if necessary. Please do not submit Instagram links. We’d prefer both horizontal and vertical photos for social media promotion. If you have too many photos to send individually, send us a Google Drive link to photos@familieslovetravel.com and mention this in your article.
Families Love Travel would love to photo credit your Instagram, website, or other social media handles! If you’re attaching photographs with your article or simply want to contribute an image, please include where we should credit your submission. Be sure to also label your photographs properly!
