Transportation is another thing to consider when vacationing in United Arab Emirates (UAE) with kids. Whether you need information about car seats or all about local airlines in United Arab Emirates (UAE) for families, you’ve come to the right place.

Car Seat Laws

If you plan to ride in a car, all passengers are required to wear seat belts, including those sitting in the rear seat, failing which the driver of the vehicle will be fined AED 400 and slapped with four black points. Children up to four years of age must be provided with a child safety seat.

Transportation Services

The government controls most public transportation in the UAE – whether taxis, buses, metros, etc. – so it’s very efficient. However, there isn’t widespread rail transport throughout the UAE. Though Dubai has a metro with two lines, the Abu Dhabi and Sharjah iterations are still under construction. Dubai is the only emirate with a transport card linking public transport payments, including the metro, tram, buses, and water buses. Buses in the UAE are clean, efficient, and safe. Buses are the most affordable and most accessible form of public transport for families traveling from emirate to emirate.

Taxis are also the preferred mode of transport for families in the UAE. Prices are usually regulated, and bigger emirates such as Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah have their own departments of transport that run the taxi services; taxi fares vary from emirate to emirate. Dubai has the highest price tags. Smaller emirates like Fujairah, Umm Al Quwain, and Ras Al Khaimah don’t have as extensive of a public transport system as larger emirates like Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah. However, they have taxi services.

Searching for more tips about the United Arab Emirates (UAE) with kids? Between tipping customs and important holidays, there are still a few things left you should know. Keep reading to learn more about United Arab Emirates (UAE) with kids!

Tipping Customs

Knowing all about tipping in United Arab Emirates (UAE) can save families a lot of misunderstanding. In United Arab Emirates (UAE), like many popular travel destinations, tips and gratuities are discretionary and dependent on the service quality you’ve received. Tipping throughout United Arab Emirates (UAE) is usually uncommon. When visiting spas, salons, and other service industries, you can feel free to leave a tip, though it’s not required. At restaurants, bars, or cafes, diners occasionally round up their bills and leave change behind. Families dining at a fancy restaurant can also feel free to leave a small tip, but it’s not expected. However, there’s usually a service charge included in the bill, so be sure to check that first.

Important Holidays

If you’re still searching for specific dates to visit the United Arab Emirates (UAE), you may want to determine whether your vacation will fall on a public holiday – especially ones like Ramadan, where fasting is common, as this generally means more restaurants and grocery stores will also be closed during the day (reopening after sundown). This can significantly diminish the number of attractions or points of interest you see, so it’s important information to know about visiting the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Check out the United Arab Emirates (UAE) National Holidays for more information here.
